The town
One town, two counties, and a co-op with its name on the building
The 2020 census counted 13,369 people here, with later estimates above 14,500, spread across 8.81 square miles that sit in both Tarrant and Parker counties. The town is about 17 miles north-west of downtown Fort Worth, at 725 feet, on the western shoulder of Eagle Mountain Lake.
It is also where Tri-County Electric Cooperative keeps its headquarters. That is not trivia. A co-op is member-owned, has no retail choice attached to it, restores its own line and answers to its members rather than to a retail provider — and its territory runs across 16 north Texas counties from offices here, in Keller, Granbury and Seymour. Parts of the area are delivered by Oncor instead. Two houses on the same road can sit on different systems.
For a generator project that matters in one specific way: an automatic transfer switch watches the utility voltage at your service, not a notification from anybody. It does not care which company owns the wire, and it does not wait for a crew to be dispatched. What the utility does decide is how long you will be running on the generator, which is a fuel question rather than an electrical one.
Fuel and water
The two questions that set the price here
Neither is answered by the address alone, and both change the project more than the choice of brand does.
A main can stop a few hundred feet short
Atmos Energy has distribution in parts of the area, but this is the kind of town where availability ends mid-street. Where there is no service, the project includes a propane tank sized for the runtime you actually want, ten feet of separation between tank and generator, and a delivery arrangement. Inside the limits, the pump comes off the list
The city draws from Eagle Mountain Lake and distributes municipally, with excess treatment capacity of six million gallons a day and sewer capacity of 1.7 million. Inside the limits you are usually not backing up a private well pump, which removes one of the hardest starting loads from the calculation. Outside them, it goes straight back on.
Those two answers together are most of the difference between a straightforward install and a complicated one. A house inside the city on an Atmos meter is a compact project. A property outside the limits on a well, a septic system and a new propane tank is a bigger one, and the honest way to price it is to walk it first.
Lake lots
Distance is the variable that moves the quote
On a long, graded lakeside lot the conduit run can cost more than the difference between two generator sizes.
Where the pad can sit
Five feet of clearance from any operable window, door or vent and from combustible walls, five feet overhead, about three feet from planting, and ten feet between a propane tank and the generator. On a narrow lake lot those rules and the grade often leave one workable position.
How far back to the panel
Long runs mean bigger conductors to hold voltage drop inside tolerance, and bigger conductors are the line item people do not expect. We measure the route at the assessment rather than estimating it from the driveway.
What else is on that run
A boat lift, a dock, a shop or a barn is frequently on the same service and rarely on the load list. If it has to stay on, it belongs in the sizing conversation before the machine is chosen.

Azle sits on the route between our Parker County work and the Tarrant County side, which is why it is a normal part of the week rather than the far edge of the map.

County lines, co-op versus retail power, gas availability and what a lake lot does to the run.
Which county am I actually in?
It depends which side of town you live on, and it is worth knowing before anyone applies for a permit. Azle straddles the Tarrant and Parker county line across roughly 8.81 square miles, so two houses a few streets apart can answer to different county authorities. Inside the city limits, municipal permitting applies either way. Outside them, the county line decides whose permitting and whose on-site sewage authorization the project runs through. We establish which one you are in at the site visit rather than at submission.
Is my power co-op or retail?
Both exist here and they behave differently. Tri-County Electric Cooperative is a member-owned co-op headquartered in Azle itself, serving 16 north Texas counties from offices here, in Keller, Granbury and Seymour. Oncor delivers to other parts of the area. A co-op member cannot shop retail providers and reports outages to the co-op; an Oncor customer has a retail provider on the bill but reports outages to Oncor. Restoration priority and outage duration differ between the two, and we check which one serves your meter before we quote.
Can I connect to natural gas?
Sometimes, and it is genuinely address-specific here. Atmos Energy has distribution in parts of the area, but Azle is the kind of town where a gas main can stop within a few hundred feet of a house. Where there is no service, the project includes a propane tank sized for real runtime rather than a brochure figure, plus ten feet of separation between the tank and the generator. That decision changes the site plan, the lead time and the price, so we settle it at the assessment rather than discovering it during installation.
Does living near Eagle Mountain Lake change anything?
Two things. Lake lots are often long, narrow and steeply graded, which affects where a pad can sit and how far the conduit has to run back to the panel — distance is the variable that moves an electrical quote most. And the city draws its water from Eagle Mountain Lake, treating and distributing municipally, so unlike properties further west you are usually not backing up a private well pump. That takes the single hardest starting load out of the calculation for a lot of Azle homes.
Do you serve properties outside the city limits?
Most of our work is outside city limits, and around Azle that is a meaningful share of the market. Unincorporated addresses usually mean county permitting rather than municipal, a propane tank rather than a gas meter, a private well and a septic system, and a pad sited clear of the drainfield. Those are the conditions we work in every day west of here, so an acreage property outside Azle is familiar territory rather than an exception.
Is Azle too far from Santo for a service call?
No. Azle sits between our home territory in Parker County and the Tarrant County work, roughly 17 miles north-west of downtown Fort Worth, and Springtown is directly between the two. It is a normal part of the route rather than the far edge of it. Emergency after-hours service is available for existing systems, and office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
